It was 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, when two members of the CUSA Student Life Committee met with David DeLisle, Director of Campus Safety and Security. The plan was to test the blue lights on campus, which allow someone in distress to contact the authorities, to ensure that they worked and were efficient.

Spots in Commuter Lot Taken by Faculty

Many students complain that the commuter lot always seems to be full when they are looking for a parking space. However, some of the cars belong not to commuting students, but to faculty members instead. According to Campus Safety and Security, each day there are about ten spaces taken by faculty members.

At the October 16 meeting of the Clarkson University Senate Association, the president of the CSEA Local 752 labor union spoke to the Senate and the Student Activities Fee was discussed in addition to other topics. Ed Collins, the president of the CSEA Local 752 labor union that represents approximately 100 Clarkson maintenance workers, asked for CUSA's support in their struggle to obtain higher wages for its members.

Diversity Festival To Take Place in Potsdam

As part of the thirteenth-annual World in Potsdam Diversity Festival, Potsdam Village Mayor Ron Tischler and the Board of Trustees recently unanimously declared Monday, October 30, 2006, CommUNITY Day as a way for Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, and the Village of Potsdam to promote diversity and multiculturalism for the educational and economic development of the community.

More Bodies Unearthed at Ground Zero Site in NYC

About a dozen more pieces of human remains-including a bone more than a foot long-were unearthed near Ground Zero Saturday after a new search for September 11 victims kicked into high gear. A crew working with forensic experts also found wallets, shoes, and cash at previously unsearched manholes, a member of the team told the New York Daily News.

Internet Addiction Found to be Growing Problem

Like a roll of the dice or a sip of bourbon, the glow of the computer screen has an irresistible and dangerous allure to many people, according to a new nationwide study by Stanford University. A random survey of 2,500 adults-the first-ever attempt to quantify "internet addiction" in the general population-found that between six and fourteen percent of computer users said they spent too many bleary-eyed hours checking e-mail, making blog entries or visiting websites or chat rooms, sometimes neglecting work, school, families, food and sleep.

Senator Hillary Clinton and Republican opponent John Spencer debated for the first time Friday night-but nearly half the questions were about her possible presidential future instead of their Senate race.
