On Sunday, February 13, a team composed of local fraternity members took part in the annual Gilda's Club Walk for Wellness at the Greece Ridge Center Mall in Rochester, New York. The idea for a team was presented to Clarkson's Inter Fraternal Council. With short notice of the actual date, the team raised one hundred twenty dollars to donate to the organization for cancer research. They recently received notification that the IFC team was the largest donating group in the fraternity/sorority group. Joe Jacobs of Tau Epsilon Phi, Aaron Tandy of Tau Epsilon Phi and IFC Philanthropy chair, and IFC representative Nick Dekar of Tau Delta Kappa were present for the non-competitive walk.
Gilda's Club was founded by Gilda Radner after a visit to a cancer support community in Los Angeles. Radner, who was in treatment for advanced ovarian cancer, hoped to create this "clubhouse" where men, women, and children living with cancer and their families and friends can join with others to build emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care. This organization has been spreading hope throughout the United States and Canada with locations in more than twenty-five cities. Information on making a donation can be found at www.gildasclub.org.
