If you were in Cheel Commons two Saturdays ago at one o'clock, you would have heard the clear melodies and strong harmonies of the Golden Knotes. The show seemed to run short, but the quality more than compensated for the brevity of the performance. Displaying an artistic talent that is often overlooked by the student body at large, they sang perennial favorites such as The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Under the Boardwalk, Stand By Me, and The Longest Time as well as Celtic Blessing by Dave Riley and Hear My Prayer by Moses Hogan in front of the sizeable crowd that gathered on Family Weekend.
The Golden Knotes are led by SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music students, Rob Soricelli and Danielle Cornacchio. It is Cornacchio's inaugural semester leading the Knotes and only the second semester for Soricelli; both are music education majors. The group is a diverse cross section of the Clarkson Community ranging from fraternity brothers and engineering students to SUNY Potsdam students and business majors as current members.
In case you missed Saturday's performance the Golden Knotes are planning an end of the semester gala for December 7th. The performance will feature seasonal favorites to kick off the beginning of the holiday season as well as additional classic favorites to break up the monotony of dead week.
The Knotes usually perform three or four times a semester, two larger performances while the others are at the behest of the University for open houses or any other function that arises.
If you are interested in joining, or observing a rehearsal to test the waters first, the club is always welcoming new members. Do not be deterred by a lack of experience; the group members had varying levels of experience before entering college ranging from no real singing experience to a few members who have been active singers since the second grade. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday and Thursday in Snell Hall room 177, from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The Golden Knotes are aptly described as the small club with big voices.
