Peter Boie has two audience members assist him in putting on his straightjacket for a daring, and comical, escape and big finale to the show. Boie's combination of magic and comedy proved a great blend of entertainment and was definitely worth attending.

After the first full week of classes, CUB treated us to a little magic show courtesy of Peter Boie on Friday night. The catch phrase of the night was "believe the illusion" and started with a short musical number in which he gave a quick sample of several smaller and common tricks. Boie introduced himself and presented his take on magic; his goal was to provide magic for non-believers. Boie was almost philosophical in his take on illusions, but regardless of how what you think of magic, his routine was flawless and execution perfect. Just because you know it's a trick doesn't mean you can't be entertained by a little slight of hand when it's performed well.
Competing with the Women's Hockey game vs. Colgate for an audience that night, the room slowly filled as the game ended. Boie was big on audience participation, getting as many people involved in his act as possible, from common pick-a-card tricks to having two people tie him into a straightjacket in which he would try to escape. Boie said he would have escaped from it upside down like Houdini, but CUB was too cheap to spring for a crane to hang him from.
Boie wasn't shy about adding some comedy into his act either and could have been as entertaining without any magic tricks. While Boie wasn't a David Copperfield, it was certainly more then anyone expected from a relatively unknown college act.
