The police tested everything they could find in the woman's room. The fingerprints came back as unknown, as did several hairs found on the bed. In addition, the handwriting did not appear to be that of the woman in question.

Close friends and family members provided DNA and their fingerprints to compare with those found out the scene, but nothing matched. The police were relentless in their search. They questioned numerous people, but no leads panned out. For a short time, however, a middle-aged man that had recently moved into the area was considered "a person of interest."

The young man that had been desperately searching for her helped the police at every opportunity. His connect with the officers was severed, however, when he lost his temper and assaulted "the person of interest" after the police had released him. Rage and sorrow became the only emotions he knew.

Her head rested on his chest and he could feel her breath against his neck. He held her tight and fell asleep. When he opened his eyes, however, she was gone. He woke up in his bed, alone, in a cold sweat. It was at that time that he went after the man in question. He sustained a large cut on his face as a result of the scuffle.

After months of searching and disappointment, the man decided to leave the city. He said his goodbyes and flew out.

He landed in England and took a boat to a small island off the coast. There he found a local hotel. He walked to the third story and knocked on the door. The door creaked open slowly.

The young woman stood on the other side of the gateway. Her face was as beautiful as ever. She leapt from the doorway and wrapped her arms around the young man. She ran her fingers along the cut on his face.

"What happened?" she asked, "You look sad."

"It's nothing," he said, "Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter anymore."

"It was the only way," she whispered.

"I missed you too," he replied.
