Sunday woes

Hank, the blue collar salesman of propane and propane accessories, will finally be retired. It has been announced that Fox will likely air the final episodes of King of the Hill during the 2009-2010 season. The show, currently in its 13th season, has been cancelled due to relatively flat ratings early this season. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, the creators of King of the Hill, have moved onto other projects, and as you may know, Daniels is running the show The Office.
However, The Simpsons continue to thrive as they have just re-signed their cast for three more seasons through 2011. Currently, the show is the longest running American sitcom and is poised to become the longest running series ever; it currently shares the title with Gunsmoke at 20 seasons. The Simpsons Movie, released last year, grossed $526 million worldwide and just helps to prove that at 20 seasons, The Simpsons show little to no sign of aging.
Considering the other shows in Fox Sunday's lineup, American Dad should thrive a little more as they were renewed for a fifth season. Although the show is no Simpsons or Family Guy, American Dad has been posting slight increases in ratings, and it is possible they may get a better slot with King of the Hill about to leave the mix. It will be interesting to see if this show takes off or if they will be the next to leave Fox Sunday.
With three shows left in the mix after the 2009-2010 season, it leaves avid viewers wondering what show will fill the gap left by King of the Hill. No show has been appointed to fill this spot, but hopefully Fox will be able to come up with another animated series.
