Clarkson dropped a sixth straight game; 4-2 against Princeton, Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, the Clarkson Men's Hockey team faced Princeton at Cheel arena. Faceoff was scheduled for 4:00 p.m., due to "Skate with the Knights" scheduled directly afterwards. Unfortunately, the Knights didn't have a great showing, and lost the game in a final score of 4-2.

The game was very physical, with both teams having some great hits and a few scuffles and "discussions" occuring between players on the ice. The result though was detrimental to Clarkson. Numerous penalties cost Clarkson their momentum and, ultimately, the game.

It started off rough for the Knights, as Princeton scored at about six and a half minutes into the first period. The Knights kept the play physical but just weren't able to find the back of the net in the first period.

The second period wasn't much different. Princeton scored twice to take a 3-0 lead and diminished Clarkson's hope of victory. After the second intermission, though, Clarkson came back for blood, and with nine minutes and seventeen seconds left in the game, Bryan Rufenach scored his first goal of the season to bring Clarkson one step closer to a comeback. A mere fifty-four seconds later, Brendan DeFazio scored another goal to put Clarkson in prime position to take the lead away from Princeton.

From there, Clarkson's chances just seemed to go downhill. As the heat of the game began to turn up and the pressure grew, at two minutes remaining, Clarkson got a penalty, diminishing their chances of another goal. However, their chances were revived as Princeton got a penalty only seconds later, giving Clarkson another chance. They took everything they could get, taking their only timeout and pulling their goalie, to make a final attempt at the goal. Then bad luck once again struck the Golden Knights; Shea Guthrie ended up in the penalty box, and the Golden Knights were on the penalty kill again. Despite this, they pulled their goalie as the action shifted down to the Princeton end in the final seconds, but it cost them as Princeton scored an easy empty net goal with eleven seconds left in the period, to take the game 4-2.
