Marley & Me: A comedy and more

After a successful holiday season at the box office, Marley & Me has already grossed over $107 million and is still ranked number one. The film's success is due mainly to the movie's stars Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston who follow the spotlight of the real star, a friendly, rambunctious labrador named Marley.
The previews of the family comedy of Marley & Me give the impression that the movie is simply about the uncontrolled, hilarious acts of a family dog. However, Marley & Me goes deeper to show the love, devotion, and lessons learned between Marley and the family.
Wilson buys Marley for Aniston as an early birthday gift. In reality, the "clearance puppy" is actually Wilson's way of putting off having kids for a few years. Marley soon demonstrates his unruliness by tearing apart the furniture and even the drywall when left alone for an hour. The powerful, energetic, uninhibited dog is also kicked out of obedience school, terrorizes dog-sitters, tries to jump out of moving vehicles, and gets dog beaches shut down.
Marley & Me follows the family and Marley through times of triumph and times of disappointment. Such an uncontrollable, lively dog would typically be put in a shelter or would tear families apart. Nonetheless, Marley's personality and heart of gold shines through at even the toughest times. The unexpected tearjerker at the end leaves the audience wanting more, including a dog of their own. But it may be a good idea to start with one that is not so destructive.
