This movie has an unconventional opening, very different from viewer expectations. The mash of different things happening at the beginning of the movie, and the involvement of a multitude of people leaves the audience completely confused. However, as the movie progresses, the plot begins to reveal itself. The world is going to end on December 21, 2012.

The protagonist of this movie, Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) goes on a mini-vacation to Yellowstone National Park with his kids. Things completely change here. As they start exploring the park, the tension starts building, leaving the audience anxious about what will happen next.

During their exploration they find a part of the park that is blocked off and are ambushed by the US Army. As the movie progresses, they meet a scientist who is working towards saving the world. The remainder of the movie has the audience at the edge of their seat. With massive earth quakes, fires, floods and just total chaos, you never knew if the main characters are going to make it.

This movie, though it starts of a little ambiguous, does a perfect job of building the tension. It is kind of a mix between Armageddon and The Day After Tomorrow, with a unique ending.
