Ugly for a cause

This week, the Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity at Clarkson, brought back a long forgotten tradition: The Ugliest Man on Campus.
Ms. Shana Eaglefeathers McIntosh, a science research professor in the Margaretville Central School in New York, recently lost everything she owned in a massive fire.
Kory Beth Ancona, who has personally interacted with Eaglefeathers said, "She is a really nice person, very dedicated to her students. She has done a lot for the community. I hate to see her loose everything like this. I wanted to do something to help."
So, she came up with the idea of reviving the tradition of 'The Uglist Man on Campus.' The entire fraternity pitched in by getting pictures, collecting money, and making posters. Dr. Wick, Dr. Jim, S. Rogers, K. Stimeling and D. Davis all competed for the title. When Kory approached them and told them about the cause, they were more than willing to help. Donations were made in the form of coins.
The contestants were chosen to create public interest and, in my opinion, were chosen appropriately. But, not enough people were aware of the event and, more importantly, the cause. "There is only so much you can put on a poster." Even though the event was not as successful as they had anticipated, they are hoping to revive the tradition and get a better public response in the years to come.
After the final tally on Sunday, Shane Rogers won the title of "Ugliest Man on Campus." Dr. Wick came in second, followed by Dr. Jim. Clarkson's "ugliest" men should be proud to know that that more the $50 was raised as a donation.
