The Clarkson Men's Hockey Team broke out of their six game losing streak at Dartmouth College on Friday, November 20. With a slow start in the beginning of the game, the Knights rallied in the third period with two unanswered goals. Junior assistant captain Brandon DeFazio started the rally by scoring the game-tying goal, making it his third goal in three games. Sophomore defenseman Mark Borowiecki capped it off with Clarkson's game-winning goal with an assist from Matt Beca.
The Golden Knights may not have played their best hockey at Dartmouth, but they made up for it with their strong effort, level of intensity, and teamwork. Each of Clarkson's goals and assists were awarded to eight different Clarkson players with a fairly even contribution from each of them.
Clarkson's goaltender Paul Karpowich had arguably performed at the highest level out of all of the Knights, by posting up 35 saves and making some spectacular saves at the end of the game to hold onto a 3-2 win in Thompson Arena. With Dartmouth on a power play for the last minute of play, Karpowich made some amazing saves to shut The Big Green down. One of his acrobatic saves can only be described as a "barrel roll with a kick save and a beauty."
Each of the three stars went to Clarkson players. Sophomore Louke Oakley scored Clarkson's first goal and earned the third star, Borowiecki with the second, and the dominating performance by Karpowich warranted the first star. Clarkson's penalty kill successfully stopped 6 out of 7 of Dartmouth's one-man advantages. However, Clarkson was unable to capitalize on any of their four power play opportunities and have seemed to continue to struggle on the power play.
With their first win on the road, the Knights got on to the ECAC point scoreboard with two points from Friday.
