Clarkson's chapter of NYWEA poses for a team photo at a local conference.

Clarkson's chapter of the New York Water Environmental Agency (NYWEA) sent ten students to the annual NYWEA Conference in New York City this past week. For those of you who do not know much about NYWEA, it is the environmental engineering professional society at Clarkson. Clarkson's chapter is focused on promoting professional networking to students looking for work in environmental fields, promoting career opportunities on campus, and providing knowledge as young professionals in service to local high schools in the North Country.

One main feature of the conference was student presentations. Clarkson students gave four of the eight total presentations and provided five of the poster presentations at the conference. The chapter left the conference with three awards, including first place for Student Chapter Grants, coming away with a $1000 prize and recognition as the best student chapter in the state.

Students were also able to meet with other student chapters across New York. The conference was a success; students were able to meet other students with similar interests as well as network with possible employers. Although the main focuses of the conference were based in water and wastewater technology, professionals from environmental consulting, water resources, and air quality control were also present.

In the upcoming months, NYWEA will be bringing many of the ideas from the conference back to Clarkson's student chapter's activities. The Clarkson chapter will bring host speakers and more low-key activities on campus. For more information about NYWEA and the future activities, please contact us by sending an e-mail to guethlma@clarkson.edu. Hope to see you all at NYWEA.
